Here are some of the most frequently asked questions about The Black Knights and our other services.

If you don't find the answer you're looking for here, just email us at bookings@blackknightsband.com

How many musicians are in the band?
The Black Knights is a 4-Piece band featuring keyboards, guitar, drums and a female vocalist. All four band members sing so there is good variety during the night in terms of songs and singers. Plus there is great vocal harmony in every song!

How can I be sure that the group of musicians I hire will be the same musicians who will perform at my wedding/event?
The Black Knights is a "set" group, which means every member in our band will be the same every time. We do not employ freelance musicians. In the event of illness a substitute of equal ability will be employed but this is an extremely rare occurance.

What is the band's dress code?
The typical dress code for the band is as you see in the photos; black dress or black suit, white shirt and white tie. This attire will look very elegant at any event, including black tie.

The ages of our guests will vary considerably. Can your band play all types of music?
The versatility of The Black Knights is such that our musicians can authentically perform a wide variety of music ranging from waltz’s, jazz, country, pop and rock. Our song list is extensive and includes music from every era. Have a look here.

Is the DJ one of the band members?
No. If you book a DJ through us, we hire in a professional DJ for your event from a short list with whom we have worked and who we know to be reliable and versatile. We believe that after the band performance for 2 or 3 hours, none of us should have the energy to DJ for a further 2 hours.

What does the pre-dinner music involve?
At a wedding reception, usually the guests arrive to the hotel between 3 and 4pm. The Bride and Groom will be having their picture taken after the ceremony and will not arrive to the hotel until 4 - 5pm. To keep your guests entertained and to create an atmosphere of celebration it is nice to have some subtle live music between 4pm and 5.30pm or so. Played on the hotel's piano or a digital stage piano the music includes easy listening, jazz and light classical. A simple and elegant touch to a wedding, celebration or corporate event during a pre-dinner drinks reception.

How many breaks do the band take and how long do they play?
There are two answers to each of these questions and they depend on the event. For a wedding, the 3 hour set includes a 20 minute break during which your guests will be served with tea/coffee and light finger food. It is important that music pauses as this time as it can be dangers to carry hot drinks while people are dancing around.

Secondly, at a corporate event/celebration, the band usually plays continuously for 2 hours without a break. Taking into consideration the timing of events like this the band will play from 11pm-1am or midnight-2am depending on the night and bar extensions.

Will the band perform at a volume that is comfortable for me and for my guests?
The Black Knights have some of the most modern sound and audio equipment available today to ensure that you hear the best quality music. But if, for any reason, you would like us to reduce the volume levels, all you have to do is ask!

Will the band learn a special song?
If you provide four weeks notice, and a CD or MP3 of your song, we will perform it for you on the night. If for any reason we think that we cannot do justice to your song, we will discuss this with you and arrange for it to be performed on CD, but we will do our utmost to accommodate your special request.

How do we make a booking?
To book The Black Knights just call or email us to check our availability and if your date is available we will ask you for a security deposit. You will then be issued with a booking confirmation. A deposit must be paid to secure the date. Provisional bookings are held for 2 weeks and are then released. Once a booking has been made, we will be in contact with you over the months prior to your event to finalise any special requests you may have.

What if, for some reason, I need to cancel the band?
Sometimes circumstances are beyond your control and you may need to cancel your booking. Due to the nature of wedding and event bookings (i.e. 12-18 months in advance!) there is a 50% cancellation fee within 3 months. The reason for this is that we have almost no chance of filling your date within this time. As arrangements have been made, musicians booked and other bookings forfeited to play at your event it is only fair that we have this policy. Thank you for your understanding.
